2002: Degree in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Bologna (supervisor Prof. B. F. Bonini), thesis: "Ferrocenoil derivati contenenti zolfo a chiralità centrale e/o planare per la sintesi di leganti e building blocks chirali"
2005 - 2007: PhD in Chemical Sciences at the University of Bologna (supervisor Prof. B. Samorì), thesis: "Design, synthesis and characterization of DNA supramolecular nanostructures"
2008 - 2010: Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Bologna working on In Singulo Force Spectroscopy of Intrinsically Disordered Proteins involved in neurodegenerative processes  
2011 - present: Research fellow at Italian National Research Council (CNR), Institute for the Study of Nanostructured Materials (ISMN) exploring the nanomechanical determinants of biological function in various systems
